Gran Turismo 6 Announced

Polyphony Digital announced Gran Turismo 6 for the PS3 yesterday at the 15th Anniversary of Gran Turismo at the Silverstone Circuit. It’ll be out this holiday season.

GT6 will feature will 1,200 cars at launch, and seven new course locations for 33 tracks in total, with 71 different layouts (19 of which are brand new). The UK Silverstone will be making its first appearance in the long-running racing franchise. Also, all cars and tracks from Gran Turismo 5 - which has sold 10 million copies to date - will be included.

Sony has confirmed that there will be a new GPS data feature, as well as an overhauled interface running on a new engine for the game. There will also be expanded connectivity via smartphones and tablets.

Konami to Stream Pre-E3 Event June 6

Today, via their Twitter account, Konami announced that they will be streaming their pre-E3 press conference on June 6th, at 1:30 p.m. EST. You’ll be able to catch the stream over at Gamespot, or via the Xbox 360’s media application. Konami’s website will also be carrying the stream.

There’s a lot of excitement for Konami’s E3 event due to big titles like: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Ground Zeroes, and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2.

Square-Enix Reports Losses

Square-Enix has posted a loss of ¥13.7 billion, which is about $134.9m/£87.6m, for its financial year. Despite sales in the millions, titles like: Tomb Raider, Hitman: Absolution, and Sleeping Dogs all failed to meet Square’s expectations. These losses also come after Yoichi Wada, who was CEO for 12 years, stepped down back in March, and large job cuts were made in their Los Angeles and London studios.

In wake of this news, Square has announced that they’ll be focusing more on mobile games for tablets and cellphones, as well as increase the turnover rate between larger, AAA titles. Though, their high mobile price tags for games like Final Fantasy IV ($15.99) haven’t caught on so well in NA, they’ve been extremely successful...

EA obtains rights to develop Star Wars games via Walt Disney Co.

Disney has signed a multi-year license to Electronic Arts to begin development of new Star Wars games for a “core gaming audience”. EA’s roles will encompass development for a wide variety of game genres and spanning over all of the current and next-gen consoles, as well as PC. Disney will be holding onto the casual gaming market with mobile, social, tablet, and online games.

John Pleasants, Co-President of Disney Interactive, said in a press release, “Collaborating with one of the world’s premier game developers will allow us to bring an amazing portfolio of new Star Wars titles to our fans around the world”.

EA Labels President Frank Gibeau claims that three of their top studios will be working on creating new games: DICE (Mirror’s Edge, Battlefield 3), Visceral (Dead Space, Army of Two), and BioWare (Mass Effect 3, SWTOR)....

Rockstar Games has released three new trailers for their upcoming, crime-bonanza Grand Theft Auto V. These three trailers are of the game’s three protagonists: Michael, Franklin, and Trevor.

Michael is a middle-aged man going through a midlife crisis, dealing with his addiction to chaos and his troublesome family.

Franklin is trying to escape his life of non-stop gang violence in the Baller-Grove Street rivalry.

Trevor is an out-of-control meth cooker and dealer, who revels in violent absurdity.

Grand Theft Auto V will be out on September 17th for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
